What is the difference between the OLED screen and the LCD screen?

The OLED screen and the LCD screen are the current two different screens for iPhone. The most important difference between the two is how they emit light. The LCD screen emits light via the backlight. Red, green, blue filters need to be set in front of the white backlight, and separated by the liquid crystal layer, then adding the polarizing plate and the glass substrate. The overall structure will become thicker, about 0.6-0.8 mm.

OLED screen uses organic compounds. When current is passed, the sub-pixel can send red, green, blue light, with no need for adding a backlight and filter and requiring a liquid crystal layer. Only one polarization layer is enough. The thickness of OLED can be up to 0.3 mm.

The OLED screen can control the color level, so the color accuracy is almost perfect, and it is almost unable to distinguish in the naked eye. Since 100% black is expressed by extinguishing the pixel point, the OLED screen has a nearly limitless contrast. In the latest iPhone 11 Pro series, the screen brightness can reach 800 Nit, ensuring that the screen content can display the screen content even in the sun.

The LCD screen can only rely on the backlight due to the color brightness, and then the liquid crystal deflection does not achieve 100% shading. The color expression of each pixel point has a little error, and therefore the accuracy as well as the contrast is slightly lower.

OLED has a faster switching speed than the LCD (the time required for each pixel is completely changed). The best LCD can completely switch color in a few milliseconds (thousandths), and the best OLED display cost only a few microseconds (one thousand thousand seconds). You can completely switch color, when playing games or playing dynamic video content. The chances of obscurity or tailing phenomenon are smaller.

When the pixel point is not expressed (such as black), it can directly cut off the power supply of the corresponding pixel point, and effectively save power. The LCD screen can only make energy saving through the overall brightness of the screen, and the energy-saving efficiency is relatively low.
